A convicted sex offender known to target college-age women could be in the area around Maricopa County community colleges, according to the MCCCD Department of Public Safety.

Police said Brian K. Downing was convicted of sexually assaulting three women in Arizona who were strangers to him. He was allowed to move to Oregon and while there police said he sexually assaulted two other women, one of which was only 16 years old.

Police said he targets college-age women and believe he is a threat to female students on campus. Investigators believe Downing may be in the area of Maricopa County community colleges.

"It's scary," said Leisli Ruiz while studying at Mesa community college Saturday. "I am going to stay with other people now."

Flyers were posted at the Maricopa County community colleges including Mesa Community College and Scottsdale Community College with the man's photo and information about him posted on them.

"I think they make you a little more cautious as to what's going on around you so you're not just walking off at night, just be more cautious," said student Kellie Martinez.

Downing is described as 5'8" tall weighing approximately 175 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

If you see him, you are asked to call immediately call police.
