The Arizona Humane Society is hoping a few good pet lovers will adopt a rat.

AHS spokeswoman Bretta Nelson says the facility is currently overrun with pet rats and rabbits, with 70 of the critters on the adoption floor.

Nelson said rabbits and rats make some of the best pets for families and pet lovers who might not be able to take in a dog or cat.

She added the staff can also provide families with tips on how to help care for these pets.

The critters are up for adoption at the AHS's Campus for Compassion at 1521 W. Dobbins Rd. in Phoenix.

The adoption fees are $10 for rats and $35 for bunnies. The fee includes spay or neutering, a follow-up vet exam and 20 percent off rabbit-related items in Pet Emporium).
