On Tuesday the city of Mesa broke ground on a new welcoming center at Mesa Grande.
Mesa Grande is considered one of the most important prehistoric Hohokam sites in Arizona.
The welcoming center is located on the corner of Date and 10th Street.
The Hohokam platform is 27 feet high and longer than a football field, making it one of the largest "platform mound communities" in the country.
