Downtown Lincoln Family YMCA basketball court being removed
PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Some big changes will take place Tuesday at a downtown Phoenix landmark.
The basketball floor at the Downtown Lincoln Family YMCA is being removed.
If you are basketball fan, then you know the significance of the court.
The floor has been around since 1952. Several big name guys have played on it, including former Suns Dan Majerle and Amare Stoudemire.
The basketball court at the Downtown Y was installed during construction of the branch in 1950 and 1951 and opened to the community in early 1952. But it can no longer be refinished. So instead, the gym floor will be carefully removed and sold off as coasters, pictures frames, coat racks and more.
The money raised will benefit the Valley of the Sun YMCA's Strong Kids and Families campaign.
