Phoenix police investigating voter fraud casePosted: Updated:
A man saved his friend from becoming a victim of voter fraud, and now police are investigating more than a dozen voter fraud cases they believe are linked to the suspect.
According to the police report, Jose Leal, 22, contacted the victim and asked him to help with his voting ballot he got in the mail.
On Aug. 11, the victim agreed and filled out the ballot at his home and then Leal asked the victim if he could turn the ballot in for him, the police report said.
The victim's friend found out Leal had contacted the victim and called the Maricopa County Recorder's Office. He found out the victim's ballot was not received as of Aug. 21.
Police said Leal was affiliated with multiple campaigns, including Raquel Teran for the state Senate District 30, Jonathan Larkin for State Legislature District 20 and Ian Danley for Phoenix Union Governing Board.
The investigation is ongoing.
