Sheriff Joe Arpaio has increased reward for the arrest and prosecution of individuals defacing or stealing his campaign signs from $5,000 to $10,000.

Arpaio made the announcement on Friday saying the damage has cost "well over $40,000."

Since August, more than 200 of his signs have been sliced up, painted over with profanities, stolen, balled up and tossed aside and even been burned beyond recognition, said Arpaio's 2012 reelection campaign manager Chad Willems.

Defacing a political sign is a Class 2 misdemeanor punishable by up to four months in jail, a $700 fine and up to two years' probation.

"Given the amount of sign defacement being committed, someone knows or has witnessed these acts," Willems said.

If you have information, you're asked to call the Arpaio campaign headquarters at 602-235-9320.
