Unemployed veterans can now apply for a new training assistance program.
The Veterans Retraining Assistance Program, which started July 1, offers up to 12 months of training assistance to unemployed veterans, a spokesperson said.
Disabled veterans who have used up their unemployment benefits will be given up to a year of additional Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment benefits, a spokesperson said.
"Our military servicemen and women have done an incredible service to our country," Director Clarence H. Carter said. "It's only right that we do our best to help them obtain the training needed to re-enter the workforce when they return home."
The retraining program is part of the Veterans Opportunity to Work to Hire Heroes Act of 2011 that Congress passed last fall.
