FLAGSTAFF, AZ (CBS5) -

Extreme fire conditions have prompted Coconino and Tonto National Forest officials to impose a temporary closure to protect the area from the risk of wildfire.

The closure takes effect Thursday at 8 a.m. for the entire Fossil and Hackberry Mountain area, and borders sections of the Verde River and state Route 260.

People camping or hiking within the closure will be asked to leave until the fire danger lessens.

The public can call 928-226-4611 for the latest closure information.
