Police arrest man in connection with Sunday murder
Phoenix police arrested a 31-year-old man and booked him into jail on one count of second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of another man while his young son sat in their car.
J'Jmar Washington was arrested Monday after an intense police investigation into the death of Carl D. Scott, who was shot in front of a residence in a Phoenix late Sunday morning, police said.
Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. James Holmes said Scott was shot in the stomach around 11 a.m. in front of a house on Colter Street near 36th Avenue while his 3-year-old son was still strapped into his car seat, Holmes said.
Officers said the boy was unhurt. Scott died at a Phoenix hospital.
Investigators said they believe Scott had driven to the neighborhood, gotten into an argument with three black men, and was shot by Washington.
Several people inside the residence were questioned, Holmes said, but none were arrested in connection with the shooting.
