A 31-year-old Mexican national was arrested Friday after he attempted to smuggle about 40 pounds of methamphetamines and nearly three pounds of cocaine into the U.S., Customs and Border Protection officers said.
The man was taken into custody by CBP officers assigned to the Mariposa Port in Nogales.
Officers referred the man for a secondary inspection of his Ford SUV after a CBP narcotics detection K-9 alerted to the presence of drugs. Officers placed the vehicle on a lift and discovered 27 packages containing more than $620,000 worth of methamphetamines and one package of cocaine valued at almost $27,300.
The drugs and vehicle were seized. The man was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
