Gunfire that erupted in a hotel parking lot last week led officers to a busy mall across the street in search of a suspected gunman.
Now authorities are looking for the public's help in identifying a person of interest in the case.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of shots fired outside a Ramada Inn at 1701 W. Baseline Rd. in Guadalupe.
Deputies said two men were in a shootout, firing as many as a dozen shots. Deputies said with so many bullets flying, it was amazing no one got hurt.
One of the gunmen fled in a car and another ran across the street toward the Arizona Mills Mall, sheriff's investigators said.
Tempe Police converged on the mall and the MCSO helicopter searched from the air.
"We don't have any information that confirms that he did in fact enter the mall," said MCSO Sgt. Brandon Jones.
A mall spokesman told CBS 5 News the mall was never evacuated or closed.
Officers searched the complex and reviewed surveillance video to see if they could catch a glimpse of the suspect actually going inside.
MCSO said the person in the surveillance images changed his clothing as seen in the first image into a long sleeved, red-hooded shirt with thin white strips. He's described as 5'11'' to 6'1'' tall, with a thin build and is possibly in his mid to late 20's.
Anyone with information leading to the identity of this person should call MCSO at 602-876-1000 and refer to department report 12-044090.
