A state Senate subcommittee is debating a new bill that could control the fate of union across Arizona.
Lawmakers say Senate Bill 1485 was guided by a tough new labor union law in Wisconsin, but many say this bill goes even farther.
The bill would make it illegal for government bodies to collectively bargain with employee groups, including public safety unions.
It also ends automatic payroll deductions for union dues and bans compensation of public employees for union work.
The new legislation could make Arizona ground zero for union protests during this election year.
The bill passed a government reform committee Wednesday afternoon.
