One person was wounded in an officer-involved shooting in Mesa early Sunday evening, police said.

No officers were hurt, according to investigators.

Mesa Police Det. Steve Berry said it started with 911 dispatchers receiving calls of a truck driving erratically through central Mesa.

"That vehicle continued across town and as it was going along, it continued to run red lights," Berry said.

The vehicle then crashed.  As officers arrived, the driver walked away.  Officer began issuing verbal commands for him to stop, Berry said.

"Because of his erratic behavior, the officers attempted to use a Taser," Berry said.  At that point, the suspect turned around and drew a handgun.  Officers opened fire.

Berry said it's not known if the man actually opened fire.

During the incident, four vehicles collided at the nearby intersection as motorists slowed down to see what was going on, Berry said.  At least one person suffered serious injuries.
