A suspect who was shot and critically wounded after allegedly pulling a gun on Phoenix police officers on Jan. 18 has been booked in jail.

Mario Leyva-Castillo, 29, was released from a Valley hospital Tuesday night and immediately booked into the Maricopa County Fourth Avenue Jail on seven counts of aggravated assault, one count of felony flight and one count of resisting arrest.

Authorities say Leyva-Castillo was driving westbound on Peoria and 39th Avenue when he saw officers and took off, running several red lights.

Police told CBS 5 the suspect pointed a gun at officers while driving. Leyva-Castillo made it to 59th Avenue and Cactus in Glendale and stopped in the Circle K parking lot. The suspect reportedly flashed his gun at officers but never fired.

The Phoenix police officers who discharged their firearms at the scene were identified as Sgt. Bill Gatlin, Officer Jeff Anders and Officer Alex Crabbs.
