Navajo flags ordered at half-staff for Iraq vetPosted: Updated:
President Ben Shelly has ordered Navajo Nation flags to be flown at half-staff through Thursday in honor of Sgt. Nolan D. White, who died in a traffic crash last weekend.
In a news release, Shelly said Wednesday the 28-year-old White died in a vehicle accident early Saturday morning. Details of the crash were not immediately disclosed.
White was in the First Calvary Division and a recipient of the prestigious National Defense Service and Army Achievement Medals. Shelly called White "a good man with a big heart."
White was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas, before being deployed to Iraq for 12 months, and was assigned to train soldiers within the Iraqi Army.
He is survived by his wife, Alvina White, and daughter Jayanna.
Funeral services are scheduled this week but are pending.
