Jury gives Mesa killer two death sentences

A Maricopa County Superior Court jury gave a Mesa man two death sentences on Friday for raping and murdering two prostitutes.

Trent Benson, 40, in September was found guilty on two counts of first-degree murder, four counts of kidnapping, three counts of sexual assault and one count of attempted sexual assault in the attacks on three women in Mesa and one in Phoenix. He also received more than 120 years in prison for eight other offenses.

Benson was found guilty of sexually assaulting and strangling to death Alice Marie Beck in November 2004, and Karen Jane Campbell in October 2007. He was also found guilty of sexually assaulting two other women.

  • Kidnapping, 10.5 years
  • Sexual Assault, 7 years
  • Kidnapping, 15.75 years
  • Sexual Assault, 10.5 years
  • Kidnapping, 28 years
  • Attempted sex assault, 20 years
  • Kidnapping, 28 years
  • Sexual Assault, 15.75 years
