Gov. Jan Brewer is asking the Arizona Supreme Court to deny a request to block implementation of a partial Medicaid enrollment freeze that's a key part of balancing the state's next budget.
Lawyers for Brewer and the state filed a response to an injunction request made last week by lawyers for opponents of the partial enrollment freeze that would take effect July 1 forchildless adults.
The opponents contend that those covered by the freeze are constitutionally protected under a voter-approved ballot measure that increased eligibility.
The response filed Tuesday addresses the injunction request, not the underlying lawsuit.
The response says those requesting the freeze haven't shown they'd lose health care coverage. And they say an injunction would unbalance the budget for the fiscal year starting July 1.
