ROAD TO SUPER XLII
Soldier can win tickets to Super Bowl XLII

Good news for one football fan, they have the chance to win a free trip to the Super Bowl.
The only thing we know about that fan is that he or she is now deployed near Tikrit in Iraq. The special drawing is the brainchild of the volunteer group Packages From Home. It goes to show you that for some, the road to Super Bowl XLII in Glendale goes right through a combat zone.
Some call this war, but it pales in comparison to the real thing.
Packages From Home tries to bring a little bit of home to young men and women who are fighting for their lives thousands of miles from home.
What better way to lift their morale than to give them a chance to come home for the Super Bowl?
It took five months and a lot of perseverance for Kathleen Lewis to wind her way through the Department of Defense bureaucracy to make the drawing a reality.
“Every time someone says no to us, we say please again and we do it until they say yes to us and people will always say yes to us just to get rid of us,” Lewis said.
As you can tell from all the activity, people generally say yes to Packages From Home even when they aren’t asked. Ralph Graf runs a private housing development in Pennsylvania. His son is serving with the 101st Airborne Division near Baghdad.
“We were able to raise almost $11,000 and I brought the final check down and to come down and volunteer for a week to help out with these folks who do what I think is wonderful,” Graf said.
“It’s heartbreaking,” Lewis said. “This is heartbreaking because today Mychal Miller’s box, that came back to us.”
Miller was a soldier from Peoria who recently was killed in action.
It’s for Miller's comrades in arms that Lewis, in conjunction with the Super Bowl Host Committee, is offering such a sweet deal for some lucky troop.
That won’t happen until the week of Super Bowl XLII. The drawing is open to sergeants and below who are serving in the Tikrit area.
Already thousands of troops have entered.
The final drawing will occur sometime in January. The winner gets a five-day stay at a luxury resort and two tickets to the Super Bowl.
