Shaq to volunteer for Tempe police

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- Shaq wants to give the Tempe Police Department a big assist.
O'Neal has signed up to volunteer.
The Phoenix Suns player visited the police station March 20th and filled out an application to be a volunteer
A department spokeswoman says she didn't know when O'Neal planned to start volunteering or why he chose Tempe.
Police department volunteers assist in a range of activities, from handing out flyers to acting as an interpreter.
O'Neal previously served as a reserve officer with the Miami Beach Police Department while playing for the Miami Heat.
