The ArenaBowl playoffs start Sunday. Despite going into the fray as defending champs and with an intimidating 15-3 record this season, these very determined Rattlers know the SaberCats from San Jose won't lay down.
“We've had a great week of preparation. Our focus has been where it needs to be," head coach Kevin Guy said Friday morning. "We split with San Jose in the regular season. It's quite a rivalry ,and we're going to win the last one out against them. We're ready to play this go-round. I like where we are mentally for this game."
One of their top guys, a leader on the field, is wide receiver Maurice Purify. Rookie of the year a couple years ago, this past season hasn’t been too good to him. He has battled with injuries both on the field and off the field.
“I'm just trying to get back rolling, trying to get back to my old self, play more physical and faster and just staying in the game, being mentally tough ... and when something doesn't go my way, just stay in the game and finish the game out," Purify said. "It's going to be physical. Rattlers versus San Jose, it's always physical."
The first playoff game is this Sunday at 5 p.m.at the U.S. Airways Center.
