TEMPE - Kurt Warner has officially announced his retirement from football.

A news conference was held in the team's training center auditorium, a facility used for major announcements near Warner and Hardy.

The 38-year-old quarterback did not go into much detail as to how he arrived at the decision to retire but did say he wanted to spend more time with his family. His entire family stood by him at the podium as he announced his retirement.

The former league and Super Bowl MVP had one year and $11.5 million left on the two-year contract he signed after the 2008 season.

The total included $7.5 million in a deferred signing bonus, and it is not known whether that money will still be paid now that he announced his retirement.
