PAYSON, Ariz. -- A return to tradition as Arizona State football has returned to Camp Tontozona for the first time since 2008.

“I’m really honored to be here. This is a magical place,” head coach Todd Graham said. “I walked down the field today and said, ‘man this is heaven.'”

Heaven? Magical? Maybe.

Vacation? No way.

“It’s intense," freshman running back DJ Foster stated. “It is all about us coming together as a team and developing bonds and getting to know each other more.”

“It’s rough. It’s a grind," junior defensive tackle Will Sutton added. “Practice today was intense. I’m really tired just out here grinding.”

On top of the intense practices, living conditions are not exactly ideal either.

“You have to be careful where you sleep," junior Wide Receiver Alonzo Agwenu proclaimed. “Thankfully I have a top bunk so no roaches or anything are making their way up to me.”

However, players like junior safety Alden Darby are learning you have to embrace the conditions.

“What do you expect, you’re in the woods," Darby declared. “This is not a hotel resort. This isn’t meant not be a hotel resort. This meant for us to come closer as a team and that is exactly what it is doing.”
