TEMPE, Ariz. – The last time the Arizona State Sun Devils were on the football field, they dismantled the Navy Midshipman 62-28 on December 29.

Tuesday, 80 days later, the Devils were back at it again.

“It was real good.” Head coach Todd Graham proclaimed. “I’m really pleased with the way the guys worked. I love the attitude.”

The attitude translated to the field as the tempo in practice was noticeably fast paced and “high octane.”

“I’m loving it.” Quarterback Taylor Kelly said. “We understand where to go and where to line up so we are moving at a much faster pace.”

“It’s one of the focal points we have been talking about in the off season,” tight end Chris Coyle stated.

“We switched up our cadence a little bit so that we can get up there and get the ball out fast.”

The pace is not just demanding on the players, but the coaches as well.

“I died three times.” Graham joked after practice. “I’m fat and out of shape from all the recruiting but they handled it well.”

Coming into the first day of spring ball no player has made a bigger transformation than sophomore DJ Foster.  Foster was playing at 180 pounds last year and entering spring today the Freshman All-American weighed in at 205, adding 25 pounds of muscle.

“It will help taking those hits from the big boys up front.” Foster said knowing the muscle will assist in “adding longevity and last as an every down back.”

The Sun Devils will be back on the field on Thursday when the players will be in pads for the first time this spring.
