TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- With its season opener four days away, Arizona State is waiting for the NCAA to confirm that touted freshman linebacker Vontaze Burfict has qualified academically.

Burfict has been allowed to practice but can't play in a game without NCAA Clearinghouse approval.

Coach Dennis Erickson said yesterday that he's confident Burfict will qualify.

The Sun Devils open the season against Idaho State on Saturday night.
