Wildcat coach says he's going through a divorce

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- University of Arizona head football coach Mike Stoops says he and his wife are divorcing.

The 47-year-old Stoops made the announcement yesterday, saying he and his wife, Nicole, have separated "and will be taking the difficult step of a divorce."

Stoops says it's a "very hard time for us" and asked everyone to respect the family's privacy.

Stoops has a 25-34 record in five seasons at Arizona.

He led the Wildcats to a 31-21 victory over BYU in the Las Vegas Bowl last season in Arizona's first bowl appearance since 1998.
