ASU's Stevens takes second in shot put at NCAA finals

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) -- Sarah Stevens of Arizona State took second in the shot put at the NCAA track and field championships.

Stevens lost to Florida's Mariam Kevkhishvili, who won the event with a toss of 58 feet, 4 1/2 inches. Stevens threw 57 feet, 8 1/4 inches.

Kevkhishvili -- from the nation of Georgia -- won indoor national titles in 2008 and 2009.

The hammer throw finals are today and the discus finals are tomorrow in the championships at Fayetteville, Ark. Stevens -- a senior at ASU -- qualified for both events.
