PHOENIX (AP) — The Phoenix Suns announced Monday that center Robin Lopez will undergo surgery to repair a broken fifth metatarsal in his left foot and is expected to miss between 6-8 weeks.

Lopez suffered the injury in the second half of the team's intrasquad scrimmage Saturday in San Diego.

Team officials say the procedure to insert a screw in Lopez's foot will be performed Tuesday at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix.

Lopez was the 15th overall pick by the Suns in the 2008 draft out of Stanford. He averaged 3 points and 2 rebounds in 60 games as a rookie last season.

The Suns also announced Monday thay they have waived forward Raymond Sykes, lowering their preseason roster to 15 players.

Phoenix opens its preseason Tuesday night by hosting Euroleague club Partizan Belgrade.
