SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Two weeks til the start of Spring Training and pitchers and catchers reported Monday to begin work-outs.

The public can go catch practice for free up until games start on February 25 or 25, depending up the stadium.

FOR THE DIAMONDBACKS: Fields of perfectly green grass, an expansive clubhouse next door to a training room that opens to a view of the nearby desert hills.

Arizona Diamondbacks pitchers and catchers reported to the team's swanky new spring training digs on Sunday with the idea that, with the paint barely dry, the surroundings will symbolize a rebirth of a franchise that has tumbled from contention to futility in two miserable years.

Kirk Gibson is beginning his first full season as manager, and talked about instilling "the Diamondback way," explained vaguely as an attitude of unrelenting intense competition.

Once everybody's in shape, he said, drills will be conducted at full speed.

Among the issues to be determined in the next six weeks are the final two spots in a promising young rotation.
