PHOENIX (AP) -- Arizona Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson has been reluctant to tout his team for postseason awards, whether it's him for manager of the year or Justin Upton as MVP.

When it comes to Ian Kennedy's chances at winning the NL Cy Young Award, Gibson isn't so reticent.

Coming off Kennedy's gem against Pittsburgh on Monday night, Gibson said his ace "deserves" to win the award.

The right-hander pitched eight scoreless innings against the Pirates, becoming the NL's first 20-game winner and fourth Diamondbacks pitcher to ever do it.

Kennedy has allowed one run or less in 16 of his 32 starts and has a winning percentage of .833 to go with a 2.88 ERA
while leading Arizona to the cusp its first NL West title since 2007.
