PHOENIX -- The offseason is only a couple of weeks old, but the Arizona Diamondbacks are wasting little time making moves for 2013.

The team announced on Saturday that they traded outfielder Chris Young and cash considerations to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for shortstop Cliff Pennington and minor league infielder Yordy Cabrera.

Following their trade with Oakland, the Diamondbacks traded Cabrera to the Miami Marlins for right-handed reliever Heath Bell and cash considerations.

“Adding another veteran arm to our bullpen should serve to shorten the game for us as we now have several relievers with closing experience to get the ball to J.J. Putz,” said Diamondbacks General Manager Kevin Towers. “Cliff is a blue-collar type player with postseason experience who can play both middle infield positions. He provides us with depth up the middle and versatility at the plate as a switch-hitter.”

Chris Young had been with the Diamondbacks for more than six seasons. During his time with the team he hit 132 homeruns, 408 RBIs, and had a .239 batting average.

Following Saturday’s trade, Young took to Twitter to thank all the fans for their support.

“Thanks to all the Dbacks fans who showed love and support over the past six years! Time flies!! Love and appreciate you guys forever,” wrote Young.
