PHOENIX — Derrick Hall, President and CEO of the Arizona Diamondbacks, announced today that he is battling prostate cancer.

A recent prostate-specific antigen test resulted in elevated numbers. Then on September 14, Hall underwent a prostate biopsy which was diagnosed as positive and revealed tumors.

"I was informed by my doctor while in San Diego with the team Saturday,” said Hall. “I am fortunate the disease was caught in the early stages and expect a full recovery. I will use this news as an opportunity to educate and drive awareness, while hopefully saving more lives in the future. I am in great hands, and my family and I are confident we will get through this successfully. I notified all of my staff immediately and am eternally grateful for the overwhelming support, love and prayers."

"I was stunned when Derrick notified me of his situation but from our conversations, I know he has the right mindset to conquer it,” said D-backs’ Managing General Partner Ken Kendrick, who is a prostate cancer survivor. “As a prostate cancer survivor, I fully understand the impact this may have on one’s state of mind and family. Derrick and his family have our full support throughout this process."

A date for surgery to remove the prostate has not yet been scheduled.
