PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks have claimed right-handed pitcher Kevin Mulvey off waivers from the Minnesota Twins for cash considerations, as announced by D-backs Executive Vice President and General Manager Josh Byrnes.

The club also announced it will receive cash considerations to complete the Twins waiver claim on right-handed pitcher Jon Rauch on Aug. 28.

Mulvey, 24, was 5-8 with a 3.93 ERA (65 ER in 149.0 IP) in 24 starts for Triple-A Rochester.  He held opponents to a .268 batting average (153-for-571) with 54 walks and 113 strikeouts. He also made his Major League debut on July 20 and appeared in 2 games for the Twins. Over parts of 4 minor league seasons, he has amassed a 24-28 record and 3.54 ERA (185 ER in 470.0 IP) in 82 career starts as opponents have hit .258 (463-for-1794) with 150 walks and 358 strikeouts. Mulvey, who was drafted by the New York Mets in the second round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, was the Mets’ 2007 Minor League Pitcher of the Year. He was obtained along with three players by the Twins in a trade with the Mets on Feb. 2, 2008 for left-handed pitcher Johan Santana.

Mulvey is expected to join the Major League club this evening in Los Angeles.

Also, the Arizona Diamondbacks have traded right-handed pitcher Jon Garland to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for a player-to-be-named, as announced by D-backs Executive Vice President and General Manager Josh Byrnes on Monday night.

Garland, 29, was 8-11 with a 4.29 ERA (80 ER in 167.2 IP) in 27 starts for the D-backs this season. He held opponents to a .286 batting average (188-for-657) with 52 walks and 83 strikeouts.

Garland, who signed with the D-backs as a free agent on January 29, is 114-100 with a 4.45 ERA (887 ER in 1793.0 IP) in 305 career games (282 starts) over parts of 10 seasons in the Majors for the Chicago White Sox (2000-2007), Los Angeles Angels (2008) and Arizona Diamondbacks (2009).  In his 282 career starts, he is 112-99 with a 4.48 ERA (873 ER in 1754.0 IP)
