TEMPE - Pat Murphy is out as head baseball coach at Arizona State University.
After 15 seasons Murphy announced a sudden and surprising resignation earlier Friday.
In a statement, ASU Athletic Director Lisa Love thanked Murphy for 15 years of hard work and said the coach had an outstanding record of success on the playing field.
Murphy was four-time Pac-10 Coach of the Year, won four Pac-10 titles, made four appearances in the College World Series
ASU begins a national search for a new head coach immediately.
