SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Coming off two shootout wins over the division leading Ducks, the Phoenix Coyotes have their swagger back.
“We have a mindset that we are going to win.” Head coach Dave Tippett stated Tuesday. “When you get down in games you have to find a way to win and our players have done a great job with that.”
“We’re finding ways to get points.” Goalie Mike Smith added. “We’re finding ways to win hockey games. Offensively we are playing pretty well.”
The Coyotes recent success is also making an impact in the standings of the jam packed Western Conference. On Tuesday morning, Phoenix was in fourth place in the Conference with 25 points on the season.
However, there is a caveat; they are just two points away from the 11th seed, the Nashville Predators with 23 points. As a result, the Coyotes know they cannot become complacent for the final game of the three game series with the Ducks.
“There is no complacency.” Defenseman Keith Yandle said. “If we let off the gas a little, especially against these guys, they will make us pay for it.”
“There’s no room for complacency.” Smith added. “You look at the standings and there is no time for a letdown now.”
The puck will drop at the Honda Center at 8 p.m. Wednesday night for the final game of the three game set.
