TEMPE, Ariz. -- Entering the fourth week of the NFL season it is hard to imagine any one player receiving a bigger opportunity than Cardinals Running Back Ryan Williams.

However, before Williams made good in the NFL he was a top 10 high school running back coming out of Stonewall Jackson High School in Virginia.  A time Williams will cherish forever.

“Oh man it was fun.”  Williams said, reminiscing on his high school days. “You know I met one of the most important people in my life right now and that is my high school coach (Loren Johnson)."

Coach Johnson has proved to be more than a coach to Williams.  He has been a father figure in his life.

“He is part of the reason why I am the way I am.” Williams stated of his coach. “He is somebody I can talk to, somebody I can cry on, somebody I can depend on.”

Now a starting running back in the NFL, Williams is in a position to give up-and-coming athletes advice.  His message is simple.

“Believe in yourself.”  Williams said.  “You really have to believe in what you can do.  It’s not going to come easy. It’s going to be a hard time just like myself. You know knee injury, first few games a fumble that almost cost the game. But you have to keep chucking along and keep chopping wood.”
