TEMPE, Ariz. --  The Arizona Cardinals announced Friday morning that they have released quarterback Kevin Kolb.

Kolb came to the Cardinals from the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011. In his two seasons with the team he started 14 times in 15 appearances, throwing 17 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions. He completed just over 58 percent of his total passes -- 255 of 436.

He also has been a regular fixture on the injured list.

Turf toe incurred early in the season sidelined him for several games in 2011. He came back after five weeks to lead the Cardinals to a thrilling win over the Dallas Cowboys. But it wouldn't last. He left the very next game with a head injury. That concussion knocked him out for the rest of the season.

Kolb was drafted by the Eagles in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Arizona grabbed him on July 28, 2011 in exchange for cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a second-round pick the 2012 NFL Draft.

Kolb battled John Skelton for the starting slot in 2012. And lost. Skelton, however was injured in the first game of the season, opening the door for Kolb to step in, which he did, leading the team to a come-from-behind win. Kolb picked up another win in week two, but it was downhill from there. He was sacked nine times over the next several starts.

Late in the fourth quarter against the Buffalo Bills on Oct. 14, Kolb suffered a rib injury when he was sacked. He was out for the next seven games -- all losses.

There reportedly had been talks to rework Kolb's contract -- a $9 million base contract plus a $2 million roster bonus -- but they did not go anywhere.

The Cardinals currently have Drew Stanton and Brian Hoyer under contract to fill the quarterback position. It's not yet clear who will start.

Kolb was drafted by the Eagles in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Arizona grabbed him on July 28, 2011 in exchange for cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a second-round pick the 2012 NFL Draft.

The New York Jets reportedly are looking at signing Kolb. According to Around the League's Gregg Rosenthal, the Buffalo Bills also could be an option.

Around the League's Chris Wesseling contributed to this report.
