PHOENIX -- A baseball league that serves inner-city and at-risk youth has been forced to cancel games after the fields at a Phoenix elementary school were vandalized.

The baseball fields at Mitchell Elementary School near McDowell Road and 43rd Avenue were damaged sometime between 10:30 p.m. on June 1 and 7:30 a.m. on June 2.

According to the nonprofit organization Another Chance Youth League, the pitching rubber was dug up and stolen from one field and a second pitching rubber and home plate were torn out and stolen from another field.

Baseball and softball games on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will be canceled while the fields are repaired.

Anyone with information about the vandalism can call the Phoenix Police Department.

Another Chance Youth League is a faith-based organization that was established in 2010 with the purpose of using baseball and softball as a catalyst to keep inner-city youth off the streets.
