TEMPE, Ariz. -- The first rankings of the new college baseball season are in, and Arizona State made one of two preseason top 25 lists.

The Sun Devils appear at No. 18 in Perfect Game’s rankings but are among the first five teams left out on Baseball America’s list.

Both Baseball America and Perfect Game voted Virginia as the nation’s top team this year.  This is Virginia’s first time at No. 1 in the preseason rankings.

From there, not much is the same in the two rankings. Baseball America rounds out its top five with Oregon State, Indiana, Cal State Fullerton and North Carolina State, respectively. Perfect Game lists Cal State Fullerton at No. 2, followed by Oregon State, Florida State and Indiana.

Three of Arizona State’s Pac-12 foes were listed in Baseball America’s ranking. They are: No. 2 Oregon State, No. 11 Oregon and No. 12 UCLA. Perfect Game ranked all three of those teams in the top 10, with Oregon State at No. 3, defending national champion UCLA at No. 8 and Oregon at No. 9.

The Sun Devils begin the season on Valentine’s Day, Friday, Feb. 14 against Baylor at Packard Stadium.
