I hand made all of these cut outs, it takes me 4 months to make them and about 2 weeks to set up. We are disney themed (thanks to our 4 year old daughter) and there are some characters for the adults humor as well for a total of 15 characters. Mickey and goofy are having a snowball fight in the snow and minnie and daisy are building mickey snowmen, donald is up on the roof tangled in lights, pooh and tigger are decoration a tree, lady and the tramp are exchanging gifts...and ,many more. There are lights everywhere. The yard is surrounded with 4ft candy cane’s that dance to christmas music with lit up garland strung to each one. The roof is covered in lights with 3 christmas trees that dance in multi color to music as well and santa and reindeer and a huge lit up arrow over the chimney so santa knows where to go. There is a 60 ft pine tree with lit up candy cane’s in it (that was fun).We are having santa and hot chocolate this saturday at 6pm, we will have christmas music, fire pit and wii game system set up. We advertised it on craigslist and a couple of local forum post boards. We hope you guys come check it out!!

My Name is Jonathon Rolph and I am from Mesa, AZ. My story envolves my family and three others. In November of this year I had this idea to do a holiday light show like no other. I wanted it to be something that would be felt in our little community. My idea was to create a light show at my apartment with my family for everyone living here. So the day after Thanksgiving I got to work on what would soon be named, " The Spirit Of Christmas". I asked my fellow neighbors if they wanted to paticipate three of our neighbors were all for it. The funny thing about it was they had just moved in and were complete and total strangers. That in itself is a story. Anyways on December 6th 2008 we hosted the Lighting Ceremony. I was amazed at how many people in our community showed up. It was amazing to see all of these random strangers talking to eachother and laughing and admiring the lights. After handing out candy canes to everyone we were all suprised at the comments people were saying. For example some said that what had done no one had ever seen. I mean yeah sure 30,000 lights on a house not that big of a deal but on apartments that is something. The other big comment was how what we did had brought so many people together that didnt even no eachother. Our goal for the holidays was achieved creating a gift that everyone could share in, one that some will never forget. In my eyes that is what Christmas is about. And in the hard times were in right now I felt we needed it more then ever. That was my drive through this whole thing. That was the good part to this story. Now comes the bad part. In the middle of all this we had some really serious stuff try and stop it from happening. First was our apartment complex was concerned for the safety of the people and the complex. That I totally undestood. So I couldnt continue the project until I had it inspected. Once everyhting passed we got back to work. It set us back about a week. But we didnt let that damper our spirits. But what happened next I will admit did. My mother was notified that she was let go fro her job one week after getting back on the project. My mom, dad and I live together and put all of our resources together to take care of eachother. With my mom loosing her job and one less income coming in it looked like our gift to everyone wasn't going to happen. But we came up with a plan we were going to sacrifice our christmas to give to others no matter what. People were looking forward to seeing the show, by that time the word had gotten around. We couldn't let everyone down so we pressed on with the project working well into the night sometimes 2 or 3 in the morning. Mind you my dad and I still had jobs to go to. The fact of the matter is we were able to finish the project and the gift for everyone. That is why we named the show The Spirit Of Christmas cause if it wasnt for that I don't think we could have done it. You know we are struggling really bad right now as are most with what is going on in the economy right now. But when we turn the show on everynight and see the people go through and smile sometimes 3 or 4 times in the same night. That is when we are reminded why we did this not for us but for others. That is my story just thought I would share that with you guys. My goal in all this is to simply show people that no matter how bad things are or get and no matter how many things try to weigh you down. YOU CANT MESS WITH THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS !!!!
