PHOENIX - Valley non-profit organizations are serving the homeless this holiday. Both the Salvation Army and St.Vincent de Paul served food to the homeless in the Phoenix metro area.

St. Vincent de Paul will serve about 4,000 Christmas Day meals to individuals and deliver to families across the Phoenix metro area.

The Salvation Army also delivered meals to families and hosted a big dinner at the Phoenix Convention Center. More than 5,500 were expected at the congregate meal and another 1,700 meals were delivered to home bound individuals throughout the Valley.

Last year St. Vincent de Paul distributed more than 1.1 million meals in its five charity dining rooms and through 24 other Valley partner locations. Additionally, the nonprofit processed over 9.3 million pounds of food in its food reclamation center for distribution in food boxes to individuals and families in need.

Both organization are serving a growing need in the community on Christmas.
