UPDATE:
APACHE JUNCTION – Police have released sketches and descriptions of the suspects involved in the shooting of a teen in Apache Junction on Monday.
One suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 4 inches tall and 120 pounds. He has shaggy blond hair, crooked teeth and a squinted left eye.
The second suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall and 180 to 190 pounds. He has a shaved head, a thin goatee and wore prescription glasses.
Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to contact the Apache Junction Police Department.
ORIGINAL REPORT: Apache Junction girl shot after answering knock at front door
APACHE JUNCTION – A teen girl was shot after opening the door to her home to a stranger in Apache Junction.
The 18-year-old was shot in the shoulder on Monday at about 2:15 p.m. at a home near Broadway and Apache Trail. The homeowner is reportedly the victim's boyfriend but he was not home at the time.
Police say the girl may have thought the person knocking on the door was there to inquire about the home, which is for sale.
The girl was flown to a local medical center with serious injuries. The bullet reportedly went through her shoulder and she is expected to be okay.
The suspect in this shooting fled the scene on foot and has not been identified by police. Detectives also believe the suspect may have been picked up by someone nearby. Witnesses described the suspect as a white male with black hair weighing between 165 and 180 pounds.
Police would not speculate on a motive but say it appears to be an isolated incident. Detectives also say they do not believe anyone else is in danger. The shooter remains at large.
