BUCKEYE -- A Buckeye apartment complex was evacuated Tuesday night, after a man reportedly pointed a gun at officers, and then barricaded himself in an apartment.
It began around 6:00 p.m., when a man was spotted walking around the Cholla Ranch apartments near Miller and Baseline, carrying a gun and firing shots.
Neighbors described hearing the gunfire. "We basically were in our apartment, minding our own business when we heard repeated gunshots," said resident Melissa Martin. "It sounded like a good 12 to 15 automatic gunshots just going off. It startled us."
Buckeye police officers were called to the scene, and tried to approach the man. "Officers approached him, and at that time, he raised the weapon toward our officers," says Sgt. Jason Weeks of the Buckeye Police Department. "Our officers then fired upon the subject."
The man retreated into his apartment and refused to obey commands from police.
The Buckeye Police SWAT Crisis Negotiators successfully negotiated with the suspect, 46-year-old Edward Tackett, and he surrendered just before midnight.
No one was injured during the incident.
The Goodyear Police SWAT team assisted in the operation.
