PHOENIX – The Maricopa County detention officer who chose to go to jail after being found in contempt of court is a free man.
The state court of appeals granted Adam Stoddard his freedom on Thursday after spending 10 days in jail.
On his attorney’s advice, Stoddard refused to take any questions from the press upon his release nor did he discuss the conditions he endured while incarcerated.
His attorney says Stoddard was treated with a great deal of respect by his fellow detention officers while he was jailed. Stoddard is on administrative leave with pay pending an internal investigation.
Joanne Cuccia is the public defender from whose file Stoddard lifted and copied a letter. The court ruled the main issue in this case is a violation of the attorney-client privilege but Stoddard’s attorney says Cuccia’s reputation is the issue.
