PHOENIX -- Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport expanded its early bag check program to its rental car center early this week, according to a statement from the airport.
Sky Harbor has offered the early baggage check service at its east economy parking lot and the Sky Train station connected to the 44th Street light rail stop since late 2012, the statement said. It has reportedly processed more than 100,000 pieces of luggage.
Anyone flying American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and U.S. Airways can now check their luggage at service counters immediately after returning their rental cars for no additional cost.
The counters are near the north and south exits of the rental car center’s customer service level.
"We have received tremendous feedback from travelers who have used our early bag check service and we felt it was important to offer this amenity to our rental car customers," Steve Grubbs, Acting Deputy Aviation Director for Operations at Phoenix Sky Harbor, said in a statement. "At the end of a vacation or a business trip, we want passengers to have the convenience of checking their luggage early and walking directly to the security checkpoint."
Bags must be checked at least 90 minutes before the scheduled flight departure, and airline baggage fees do apply.
Early bag check is available daily from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Travelers can also print boarding passes at the early bag check counters.
