YUMA, Ariz. -- A pilot survived after his crop duster crashed into the side of a mountain in southwestern Arizona Tuesday morning.
It is estimated that the crash occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. when the aircraft, which is owned by Morris Agricultural Sprayers in Yuma, failed to return to refuel and reload with pesticides.
The Yuma County Sheriff's Office was notified at approximately 6:25 a.m. and responded to the crash scene near Avenue 17E and County 6th Street, which is east of Yuma.
According to the sheriff's office, the plane crashed approximately 300 to 400 feet up the side of a mountain.
Personnel from the sheriff's office, U.S. Border Patrol, Tri-Valley Ambulance, Wellton Fire and the United States Marine Corps Search and Rescue were able to remove the victim from the aircraft.
Dan Bosser, 57, of Yuma, was flown to Yuma Regional Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation and Safety Board are headed to the scene.
