PHOENIX -- As the new year approaches, business consultant and author John J. Murphy offers advice on how to tackle resolutions.
In his book, "Zentrepreneur: Get Out of the Way and Lead," Murphy explores why some people do not pursue their ideas and discusses how to overcome self-doubt.
"People tend to get in their own way all the time and then they look for something externally to blame," he said.
Each chapter of Murphy's book begins with a simple question like, "what if," "why," or "why not?"
"When we play with these questions ... we see things from different angles," he said. "It allows us to be more creative, more innovative and more playful," he said.
Murphy also recommends people "pay attention to who they pay attention to," meaning they should seek credible advice.
For example, someone looking to start a business should talk to a successful entrepreneur, he said.
Murphy also encourages people to never be afraid to fail.
"There is no failure if I've learned something from the attempt," he said. "It's only failure when we give up."
