PHOENIX -- Neighbors rushed into a burning home Thursday evening to save their neighbor's dogs.

Matt Welly says he was shooting hoops when he noticed smoke coming from the house next door on Marconi Avenue, near 44th Street and Greenway. No one was home, so he went inside while another neighbor -- Renee Roncone -- called 911.

"We got two dogs," Welly said.

"I grabbed their dogs and took them back to my house," Roncone said. "I'll keep them for a few days ... well, I can keep them for a couple weeks ... until their house gets fixed."

Investigators don't yet know what started the fire, but damage appears to be minor.
