GLENDALE, Ariz. -- A pursuit of a motorcycle driver by officers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety ended just after 5 p.m. Tuesday at Arrowhead Towne Center.

The person officers were pursuing has been identified as Robert Tinta, 21, of Surprise. He was apprehended on the second floor of the Macy's department store.

It started when a DPS officer tried to stop Tinta for speeding on westbound Interstate 10 at the tunnel, according to DPS spokesman Bart Graves.

Tinta refused to stop and ended up on northbound Interstate 17. Officers in a helicopter followed him to the mall. Speeds of more than 100 mph were reached as the rider passed on the shoulder and avoided red lights, according to court documents.

Graves said Tinta changed his clothes while inside a Macy's dressing room. He then reportedly tried to leave the store.

He was taken into custody as he tried to take the elevator back to the first floor. The store tag and anti-shoplifting device were still attached to the pants as he was being arrested.

According to police, the motorcycle had a fictitious license plate on it.

No one was hurt in the pursuit. But witnesses say this driver put everyone at risk.

"I think he's an idiot," says one shopper. "I think he should go to jail."

Tinta faces several charges, including unlawful flight, endangerment, reckless driving and shoplifting.

His bond was set at $15,000.
