PHOENIX -- Firefighters carried a man down a Phoenix mountain Wednesday night after he injured his ankle.
The Phoenix, Tempe and Scottsdale fire departments responded to Papago Park shortly before 8 p.m. after the man reportedly jumped about 6 feet and landed sideways on his ankle.
About five other hikers were with the man, one of whom called 911.
Firefighters located the injured hiker by helicopter and ground crews carried him down the mountain in a basket.
"Maybe they got a late start, I'm not sure when they started out, but once it gets dark it gets a lot more dangerous and you need to be that much more careful," said Tom Taylor with the Phoenix Fire Department.
