PHOENIX – Victims of thefts that took place at Sky Harbor Airport can now call a hotline to inquire about stolen property from their luggage.

The Property Crimes Unit investigated the thefts at Sky Harbor and now potential victims can call (602) 495-7827.

The theft victims all had outgoing flights out of Sky Harbor and they did receive their luggage after their flight. Detectives say the items were taken from inside the luggage but were not listed as lost or stolen luggage.

Also, those affected by the thefts traveled out of Phoenix within the last year. Police say very little clothing was recovered but items consisted mostly of electronics, sunglasses, backpacks and purses.

Those who may think they are victims of the thefts should be prepared to provide serial numbers or any other personally-applied identifying characteristics on the products. Also, theft victims should be able to describe any rare items or type of jewelry that may have been stolen.

Police arrested 23-year-old Michael Hegstad on August 26 after they saw him remove two boxes from a conveyor belt at the airport. He faces one count of burglary and one count of trafficking stolen goods.

If you believe you are a victim we would like to hear from you, so e-mail us at 3TVnews@azfamily.com.
